Sleep has been proven to genuinely impact your skin.
This may be old news regarding sleep and the affects on your skin. But HOW you sleep is actually a major influencer on your wrinkles.
“I need my Beauty Sleep! I look tired.”
This may be something you say to get more shut eye, however sleep has been proven to genuinely impact your skin.
This is old news. You may want to strangle me and exlaim, “I get plenty of sleep and I still have crows feet and fine lines!”
Well, it may be old news regarding sleep and the affects on your skin. But HOW you sleep is actually a major influencer on your wrinkles.
Let me be the example:
I love sleeping on my stomach; always facing to the right, I like to smoosh the pillow around my face.
At my last microdermabrasion and facial at Beauty for Life, I gasped! My skin is looking impeccable, except for a couple fine lines I have around my eyes, particularly my right eye. I have been using the correct creams and being a good girl with my sunscreen. WHY?
My esthetician Noemi explained it’s caused by my sleeping position!
See, when you lay on your stomach your body weight is forced onto whichever side you sleep on. Especially with your dedicate skin on your face, the little habit of laying this way is damaging your skin.
You may ask, “What position is best then? How can I break the habit of sleeping on my back?”
You will have to patiently train your body to rest, however laying flat on your back is best. Making it more comfortable with a pillow behind your neck and knees has been something I have done that has helped me immensely.
Now when I get Collagen Induction Therapy around my eyes, it will not be in vain. I will not be forcing my skin to wrinkle with how I sleep.
Although it’s old news, remember any kind of sleep is crucial for beautiful skin.
Besides the shallow and puffy eyes after a late night, chronic sleep loss can have your body releases more of the stress hormone cortisol. Cortisol can break down collagen, the famous protein that keeps skin smooth and elastic.
So cheers to sweet dreams and soft skin- while laying on your back during your Beauty Sleep!
